Mastny Heading Back to AAA Buffalo

Mastny

Relief pitcher Tom Mastny is on his way back to the minors. In the Indians locker room post game Saturday night, Mastny was overheard telling pitcher Paul Byrd that he was just told that he was going back to the teams AAA club. In two games with the big league club, Mastny was 0-0 with a 10.80 ERA. He had pitched just 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking three and striking out none. In going over the roster, it was not known right away if the team would call up another thrower or a position player.

Tribe Puts Struggling Borowski on DL; Call Up Mastny

CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has placed RHP JOE BOROWSKI on the 15-day disabled list with a right triceps strain. To replace Borowski’s spot on the Major League roster the Indians recalled RHP TOM MASTNY.

All Kinds of Roster Moves for the Tribe

The team made a variety of roster moves yesterday and today, and here are the official pressers from Bart and the team on the moves:

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has purchased the contract of RHP JORGE JULIO from AAA Buffalo. To allow room for Julio on the 40-man roster the Indians today designated LHP AARON FULTZ for assignment.

Julio, signed on January 31 to a minor league contract with a non-roster invite, has posted a mark of 0-1 w/a 1.64 ERA in 9 relief outings for the Indians this spring (11.0IP, 11H, 2ER, 7BB, 13K, .234 avg). Julio, 29, spent most the 2007 season with the Colorado Rockies, posting a mark of 0-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 58 appearances (52.2IP, 50H, 23ER, 20BB, 50K). He owns a career Major League record of 13-33 with 99 saves and a 4.35 ERA in 411 relief appearances.

Fultz appeared in 7 games this spring for the Indians (8.1IP, 16H, 14R/11ER).

Also today, the Indians optioned INF JOSH BARFIELD to AAA Buffalo and re-assigned RHP SCOTT ELARTON to minor league camp. The Indians spring training roster now contains 32 players.

The Indians this morning optioned RHP TOM MASTNY to AAA Buffalo.

The Indians Major League roster now stands at 27 players.

Fultz Flops as Braves Top Tribe 11-4

Not exactly a good nite for the Indians Wednesday in Lake Buena Vista, as the Braves put a whoopin on the Tribe 11-4. The pitching was awful, as starter Brian Slocum left the game after four batters with a strained right groin. Jeff Harris allowed an RBI double in relief, and then Aaron Fultz blew the game, as he allowed 9 runs on 8 hits after the Indians had taken a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Six of the hits by the Braves were singles, but hey - they were hits.

A few bright spots, as Asdrubal Cabrera hit his first homer of the spring, and Beau Mills continues to play well, as he hit a leadoff homer in the third to tie the game at two. Grady Sizemore also went deep to give the Tribe a 3-2 lead until Fultz came in and let the Braves blow the doors open. One pitcher who did do his job was Tom Mastny, who threw two scoreless innings of relief.

Today the Indians will be back at Chain of Lakes Park, as they host the Toronto Blue Jays. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
