Game #92: Offense Asleep Again in 3-1 Loss to Mariners

On a night when pitching wasn’t the problem, the Indians offense once again had it on snooze as Jarrod Washburn threw 6.2 solid innings as the Mariners topped the Tribe for the second straight night, winning 3-1. The Indians had a good night from Tomo Ohka on the mound, as he threw 7 innings allowing just three runs on four hits, but he must have felt like Cliff Lee when it came to run support.
The Indians offense managed just 8 hits, left five men on base, and other than a 2 hit night each for Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez, Jamey Carroll and Asdrubal Cabrera, they got little elsewhere. Ohka must think that he’s bad luck for the team, as the Indians are now 0-8 when he starts or appears.
Then again, the Indians are not all that much better when Ohka doesn’t appear, as they are now in a deep swoon that will put all the more pressure on the club to make wholesale changes before the trading deadline, and for sure at the end of the season.
The Tribe has dropped 4 of their last 7 and 7 of their last 10. They are now just 2-35 on the year when they score 3 runs of less. Their offense has gone backwards since their win on Thursday, as they have managed just three runs over the last two games.
The team is now a full 20 games under .500 at 36-56, and will try to at least manage a split of the four games tomorrow when Aaron Laffey (3-2, 4.24) goes for the Tribe vs Erik Bedard (5-2, 2.63) at 1:05pm.
