Fausto Back on the Roster; Laffey Sent to AAA

CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has activated RHP FAUSTO CARMONA from the 15-day disabled list and purchased the contract of INF ANDY GONZALEZ from the AAA Buffalo Bisons. To clear room on the 25-man roster the Indians optioned LHP AARON LAFFEY to AAA Buffalo.
Carmona was placed on the 15-day DL on May 24 after leaving his start the night before vs. Texas (2.0IP, 5H, 6R/ER) with a left hip strain. It marked his first visit to the DL at the Major League level. Has made rehab starts at A Lake County on July 14 and AA Akron on July 19 (5.0IP). So far this year Fausto is 4-2 w/a 3.10 ERA in 10 starts (58.0IP, 54H, 20ER, 38BB, 23K, 1HR). He has allowed just 1 home run this year in 58.0IP (none in last 32.0IP) and a .324 slugging % allowed. Carmona is starting tonight vs. Minnesota.
Gonzalez has spent the entire season on the AAA Buffalo roster where he has hit .242 (70-289) with 13 2B, 7HR & 35 RBI in 83 games. He has also walked 39 times and owns an on-base % of .340. The right-handed hitting infielder has hit .311 (23-74, 3HR, .917 OPS)) off left-handed pitching and .255 (32-125) with runners on base. He assumes the spot vacated by INF Casey Blake and wears #26. The Indians 40-man roster is now at 40 after adding RHP JON MELOAN, RHP ANTHONY REYES & Gonzalez to the 40-man roster. To allow room DH TRAVIS HAFNER has been transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day DL. A roster is attached
