Cabrera Officially Called Up; Velandia Sent to Buffalo

CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled INF ASDRUBAL CABRERA from the AAA Buffalo Bisons. Yesterday, the Indians outrighted INF JORGE VELANDIA to AAA Buffalo to clear room for Cabrera on the active 25-man roster.
Cabrera will be joining the big league club for the 2nd time this year as he hit .184 (29-158) with 16 runs scored, 7 doubles , a home run and 14RBI in 50 games with the Indians before being optioned to AAA Buffalo on June 9th. After being sent to Buffalo, he hit .326 (46-141) with 25 runs scored, 7 doubles, a triple, 4 home runs and 13 RBI in 34 games. He batted .363 (29-80) with a home run and 6RBI in 20 games during the month of June with the Bisons and was recently named the International League Batter of the Week for the week ending July 13th as he hit .394 (13-33) with 2 doubles, 3 home runs and 6RBI over his final 8 games with the Bisons. Cabrera wears # 13 and will be in uniform for the Indians as they start the second half of the season tonight against the Seattle Mariners at 10:10PM EST in Safeco Field.
The Indians 40-man roster now stands at 39.
