Martinez Sits Again in Game Two vs the A’s
While Victor Martinez seemed confident that once the Tribe hit the West coast he would get back in the lineup, so far in two games he has yet to start. Today in Oakland, Martinez is once again on the bench as the Indians look to avoid falling under .500 for the first time this season after starting 2-0. Before the game, manager Eric Wedge told Indians.com that he was not 100 percent on putting Victor back in the lineup yet. “I’m just not comfortable starting him just yet,” Wedge said before Saturday’s game against the A’s. “The last thing you want to do is be a day early, then something happens and he’s out a month. The most important thing is he felt good doing a lot of work [Friday].”
Martinez took batting practice Friday, took batting practice, caught a bullpen session and ran the bases before the game. His workload was lessened Saturday, meaning that he might not be back in the lineup until the team travels to LA to take on the Angels next week.
