Indians Accept Whitney from the Nationals

The Indians today accepted back INF MATT WHITNEY from the Washington Nationals. Whitney was a Rule V pick by the Nationals in the December draft held in Nashville, TN. The 2002 Sandwich Round selection (33rd overall) led the Indians organization with 32 homers and 113 RBI last season between Class A Lake County and Kinston.
Whitney, 24, was 3 for 28 this spring with the Nationals with 1 2B, 1 3B, 1HR & 6 RBI in 17 games. He will report to minor league camp tomorrow and will be assigned to a club at the end of next week.
